The buffet chain has staked out a vacant fast-food building in Henrico for a new spin-off restaurant.
Golden Corral's fast-casual concept Homeward Kitchen is set to open its first Richmond-area location at 8801 Staples Mill Road.
The company's plans were unveiled last month in documents filed with Henrico County to convert the former Burger King on the corner of East Perham Road and Staples Mill Road.
Golden Corral debuted Homeward Kitchen in its home state of North Carolina last winter. The new chain's menu includes Southern favorites and comfort food like pot roast, fried chicken and fried green tomatoes.
While Golden Corral's main restaurant operates buffet-style, Homeward Kitchen is designed for carry-out and drive-through sales.according to Restaurant Industry Industry PublicationsGolden Corral executives plan to “quickly pursue growth opportunities nationwide” for the new concept.
The Staples Mill Homeward Kitchen will be the first in the state and second overall. Golden Corral has three stores in the area, one of which is about four miles west at the intersection of West Broad Street and Gaskins Road.
Representatives for Golden Corral could not be reached for comment by press time.
The vacant 3,500-square-foot Staples Mill building will remain and will be converted into Homeward Kitchen, according to Henrico documents. The building was sold in December 2023 for $1 million to a Brooklyn investment group, who could not be reached. Trey Blankinship and Jamie Lanham of Segal Group are in charge of leasing the building.
It will be the newest former Burger King building to be renovated in recent years in the area.Earlier this spring, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Opening at 4800 W.
