JONESBORO, Tenn. (WJHL) – The kitchen at Grace Meadows Farm has kicked off their Kids Night event with “Equipment Night.” Kids Night will be held every Wednesday in July.
Local children visited Grace Meadows Farm to learn about operating machinery and equipment and farm life. Children were invited to climb and explore the machinery.
Organizer and elementary school teacher Meredith Redman told News Channel 11 she wanted kids to feel like they were real farmers while learning about farming.
“My favorite part is seeing the kids having fun and being excited,” Redman said. “I had a kid who came on a summer field trip a few weeks ago and he said, 'I came last year too and it was fun coming out here and seeing all the things you showed me.' So I think it's fun to see the kids learning and being happy and excited about things they don't see every day.”
Children were also enthralled by Redman's storytelling talents.
“I'm a teacher. I'm an elementary school teacher. [I also give them that literacy aspect.] I usually read the kids a story related to what we're learning and then let them just play.”
Redman said the farm will also host horse nights, cow nights and nights where children can learn about vegetables and everything that grows on the farm.
Grace Meadows Farms is located at 170 John France Road in Jonesboro.
