Detectives in Middle Tennessee say an armed man was spotted climbing through the kitchen window of someone else's home and was eventually killed when the homeowner got his own gun and started firing. I was hospitalized.
According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened around 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, on Shreve Lane in Nashville. According to the map, the dead-end street is lined with single-family homes.
“The victim and his family woke up to the sound of banging on their front door and windows,” police said in a news release.
“The homeowner retrieved the gun and ordered (the suspect) multiple times to come out or he would shoot him. Then, (the suspect) began to gain entry by breaking the kitchen window. , the homeowner shot him.”
Investigators said the 32-year-old suspect was hit in the arm, dropped the revolver near the kitchen sink and fled.
“When officers spotted him nearby and attempted to render assistance, (he) became combative,” officials said. “He was taken to Skyline Medical Center and is being treated for a non-serious gunshot wound.”
The Nashville District Attorney's Office determined the shooting was in self-defense, and the homeowner is not expected to face charges, officials said.
After being released from the hospital, the suspect will face a series of charges, including “aggravated robbery, felony vandalism, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated,” officials said.
