FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) – This year, Black Friday isn't all about sales and bargains. Habitat for Humanity offers a way for shoppers to decorate their own homes while helping out in the community.
Holiday sales have already begun at Fort Lauderdale's Habitat for Humanity store, but the bargains will also benefit the community.
20% off on new furniture. Used items are 40% off.
The store has everything from artwork to memory foam mattresses to large flat screen TVs.
Many items are new and donated by corporate sponsors.
“We've got these incredibly beautiful pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind,” said Thor Barraclough, chief program officer at Habitat for Humanity in Broward. .
But many other items were donated by neighbors, so shoppers have a chance to find real gems.
“You never know when you're going to see a designer light fixture, a great antique, or a great unique table and chair set,” says Barraclough.
Shoppers can also find designer items and are excited about the possibilities.
“You have no idea. It's like a goldmine,” said shopper Lauren Maslin.
Whether shoppers are looking for new bedding or do-it-yourself supplies, Habitat Restore offers many deals. Best of all, all proceeds go to helping people build their own homes.
“Every dollar you spend goes back to support affordable housing and house families who are working hard to have a piece of the American Dream,” Barraclough said. said.
Buying second-hand products reduces waste and helps the environment.
Giving back is Habitat for Humanity's mission, and nonprofit officials said that's what Thanksgiving is all about.
“Black Friday means a lot to us. Like other retailers, this day makes such a big difference to our whole year that we actually sold a large part of our family home on that day alone. We might actually end up using it,” Barraclough said. I'm so happy that not only did they get great furniture, building materials, etc., but they were able to change the lives of their families. ”
