A celebration of the life of Harold William Smoak, 89, will be held at noon March 30 at Burrows Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Smoak passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, at his home in Loris surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 26, 1934 in Cordova, son of the late Hampton Smoke and Minnie Stroble Smoke.
Along with his parents, Harold happens to be reunited with his beloved wife of over 64 years, Margaret Vivian Smoak. and their son, David Smoak.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Turner and Lillian Parler. and his brothers, Benton Smoke, Hump Smoke Jr., and Grover Smoke.
Smokey, as he was affectionately known, proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he was able to enjoy finer things in his life.
Smokey moved with his family to Murrells Inlet, where he worked tirelessly across the Grand Strand.
Smokey was a master welder who strived for perfection and proudly owned his own kitchen equipment and repair company. His attention to detail has made him an integral part of the restaurant industry and local community. Many (he would say “all'') local business owners trusted Smokey's expertise and valued his time and effort.
In his free time, Smokey found solace in being outdoors. He especially loved tending to his lawn and garden and was very proud of his flower beds. Above all else, Smokey truly loved his family. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his quick wit, infectious laugh and love for his family.
Left to cherish Harold's memory are his beloved daughter, Pamela Rehm and her husband, John of Loris; his son Michael Smoak and his wife Marcia of Prosperity; grandchildren, Mikey Smoak (Lisa), Brian Smoak (Bianca), Caitlin Boehm (Sean), Aubrey Jones (Chandler) and Ricky Summers; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Lydia, Laramie, Faith and Lauren; great-granddaughter, Hazel; sister, Gladys Rapple; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins in the military. a large loving family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
