Hell's Kitchen (restaurant) has reopened inside Hell's Kitchen, but don't confuse that. hell's kitchen (reality show) or hell's kitchen (on Broadway)!
Local hospitality group Chowdown has reopened its restaurant at 754 Ninth Avenue, switching from Mexican to Italian cuisine. W42ST stopped by last night to announce the soft opening and spoke with owners and Hell's Kitchen residents Maren Powell and John Dempsey.
The space, just south of W 51st Street, has hosted numerous Chow Down ventures over the years, including the popular Vynl, the original Mexican-inspired Hell's Kitchen, the holiday-themed pop-up Sleigh Bar, and now the Italian-inspired Hell's Kitchen. It has been held. . Other popular restaurants in Chow Down include El Centro, ' Ritas, Bodega, and Gilda. If you've lived near here long enough, you've probably eaten at one of the restaurants.
Maren and John have lived in the area for 30 years and their love for the community is obvious. As Mullen said, “We're in the neighborhood. We're targeting the neighbors.” A New Yorker magazine cover poster tacked to the wall features the theater side and local landmark Manhattan Plaza. She shows her love by the side of the kitchen. The poster was framed at his JMC Custom Framing just down the street.
The cocktail menu was created by Tantai “Tan” Kantatyavana, former lead bartender at Lumiere Brasserie in Southern California. Butterfly Kiss is a Butterfly Flower-infused gin, sweet his vermouth, featuring the texture and acidity of cassis, lemon, and egg white. Paradiso is a tiki-style punch made with white rum, Italian brandy, homemade tropical liqueur, and coconut water. Hell's Kitchen also features a daily selection of craft beers and an extensive wine list.
Much of the menu's inspiration is drawn from a past Italian concept called BSquared, located a few blocks south, replacing the original Hell's Kitchen location. Former BSquared chef Antonio Gomez now makes fresh pasta every day in Hell's Kitchen with his chef Josh Eden, also known as “Chef Shorty.” BSquared's top seller Chicken Parmesan is back on the menu and is sure to be a hit again. Detroit-style deep-dish pizza will be added to the menu in the coming weeks.
While we were there, we ran into Hell's Kitchen resident and CBS anchor Dave Carlin. He had eaten dinner before going to see it. hell's kitchen on Broadway. It doesn't get more “Hell's Kitchen” unless Gordon Ramsay comes in and starts yelling orders.
Speaking of famously outspoken chefs, Maren is proud to have acquired the Instagram handle @hellskitchenrestaurant before her reality show aired. John recalled. “When Hell's Kitchen was on Ninth Avenue and 47th Street, a couple of suits walked in the door… They started talking, they started asking questions, and they said they were from the Fox Network.” After telling him about the show, they wanted to avoid any legal issues, but John replied, Are you going to sue you guys? ”
John may have felt like a “nobody” at the time, but he certainly made a name for himself in Hell's Kitchen. And for those who are missing Gilda, don't worry. John and Maren say Gilda will be back in a few months. In the meantime, check out Hell's Her Kitchen for handcrafted cocktails.
Hell's Kitchen is currently open Tuesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to midnight.
