When John Huggins and his wife Monica Martinez purchased 35 Eudora Street in 2007 for $850,000, they wanted to restore the midcentury modern home to its mid-1960s glory.
Using a method he calls “architectural archeology,” Mr. Huggins meticulously restored the Hilltop House, a 1966 masterpiece designed by famed Denver architect Donald R. Rourke. did.
“We tried to stay true to the original owner's vision and imagination. We wanted to bring back the wild colors, but the sources of most of the original colors were already here.” said Huggins.
“When we started the renovation, we turned to architectural archeology. We looked behind the switch plates and behind the sink cabinets to find the original wallpaper.”

Huggins said the 4,700-square-foot home is bright and open. “It's a cheerful, bright, modern atmosphere.”
It features large east-west beams, colorful accents, and whitewashed brick piers supporting floor-to-ceiling windows.
The home's kitchen still has its original cabinetry, as does the great room with built-in walnut cabinetry. The original terrazzo tiles still remain in the main part of the house.
It also features an original Majestic Char-Grill outdoor kitchen and quality finishes including vintage Prescolite light fixtures, a Nutone intercom system, and gold Phillrich Swan and Dolphin faucets.

The couple loves their four-bedroom, five-bathroom home, and their daughter will start high school next year. To ensure she could attend the school of her choice, the family decided to move and sold their home for $4.3 million.
“My wife wants to live in a more walkable area closer to downtown Denver. We are ready to downsize to a place that provides space for the three of us.” said Huggins, president and co-founder of Notable Systems.

Listing agent Stock Jonekos of Kentwood Real Estate Cherry Creek said the home will appeal to buyers who appreciate midcentury modern architecture.
“It's like walking into a museum,” he said. “It will appeal to people looking for something unique.”
