The moss green Neptune kitchen is perfect for this Cotswold home. By replacing older units with modern units, the owners achieved an overall cleaner, more modern aesthetic while retaining plenty of period character.
Who lives here?
Chris Boyen and her husband Ross, a former pilot, live in a house in the Cotswolds and are frequently visited by their family, including their four young grandchildren.

“The utility and kitchen areas were the same size and shape and very outdated, with a small walk-in pantry. We donated the old unit as a clubhouse for a local soccer team,” says Chris.
What look did you want?
CB: It's modern, yet has some personality. What we had in mind was a calming, highly efficient kitchen with smooth flow and clean lines.
How did you choose your design and get started?
CB: I wandered into the Neptune in Cheltenham, fell in love with the Chichester range and decided I wanted something very similar. The Aga determined much of the layout that would be placed in the chimney breast. She also wanted to be able to wash her clothes with a view of the garden, rather than having the sink on the island. Her daughter helped her choose the moss green color. The change from white, gray, and greige is very pleasant and I really like the fresh feel.
There was a list of essentials…
CB: Yes, I wanted a large center island, space for five ovens, a large walk-in pantry, and cupboards to hide appliances. We have installed kitchen islands in other homes, but they felt very cluttered, so in this home we wanted enough space for the grandchildren to prepare meals at one end without disturbing them at the other end. I wanted to provide it. I said I wouldn't compromise this time. I want this kitchen to be for me.
Have you given any consideration to storage?
CB: I've always wanted some kind of bellows cabinet that would allow me to keep the things I use every day, like the kettle and toaster, within reach and keep my work surface tidy. I love the features of this bi-fold cabinet. Everything you don't want to see is hidden and the mechanism simply slides open and closed. It also comes with a shelf with notches so you can adjust it to your desired height.
Is there anything you like about your room?
CB: It has drawers throughout. I was tired of always having to reach for dishes in the cupboard, so this time I wanted more storage space under the counter. We also have a walk-in pantry, so we don't need as many pantries. I couldn't live without my island, especially its size. Whether you're making bread or making pastries, it's the perfect surface to work on while still leaving room for other things, and it won't get messy like previous islands. We spend a lot of time here and eat almost all our meals here.
