“We loved discovering and browsing antique shops, checking out the latest trends in home decor, and growing and learning new plants together,” the store's website says. ing. “This gave us the idea to open a boutique that combines everything we love.”
The couple converted an old communications office building into a “unique rustic boutique.”
“We thought, 'What does Englewood need?'” and realized the only places you could buy gifts were the big companies like Walmart and Meijer,” Toni said last week. “Down the street there's Log Cabin Comforts, but they're a little different than us and offer a lot of antiques, whereas we specialize in a little bit of everything.”
Toni, who previously worked for a local health network, and Jeff, a picture frame contractor, create their own line of products with a combination of wholesale purchases and handmade items.
“We carry everything from home decor to houseplants, kitchen essentials, men's soap, goat milk soy candles, and a baby line,” Toni said. “My husband also makes a lot of our products.”
Toni said some of the store's most popular items are created by Jeff.
“He uses barn wood to create seasonal items. Decorative bunnies, Christmas trees, birdhouses, wall hangings and more are very popular,” she said.
An up-to-date list of the shop's current inventory is available on the website www.rusticandrooted.net.
Toni said the community response to the business has been positive and welcoming.
“The Christmas season was great. We received a lot of support from the community and this season is starting to pick up again,” she said. “The response has been very positive and great.”
