The latest menu will be available for a limited time.
As fast-food chains continue to compete for hungry customers, Taco Bell is pushing the boundaries with its mouth-watering new menu items.
Yum! Brands, the beloved California-based Mexican-inspired restaurant, recently opened the doors of its test kitchen for “Good Morning America” to give a glimpse into what goes into cooking.
Taco Bell has unveiled the all-new Cheese Street Chalupa, one of under 50 new dishes that were selected from more than 2,000 ideas and made it onto the menu from their test kitchens.
The new street-inspired chalupa is made with thick fried dough layered with cheese and stuffed with marinated grilled steak or slow-roasted chicken, fresh coriander and onion.
Both will be on the menu at participating locations for a limited time, priced at $5.49 each.
“It all starts with, 'What do I want so badly?' [and] “'Is it incredibly, undeniably innovative?' And then you build it and people talk about it,” chief marketing officer Taylor Montgomery told GMA.
Taco Bell is taking fan-favorite items to the next level this summer with innovative twists, like the new “Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme,” which replaces the tostada shell with an oversized version of the famous cracker.
Montgomery said he was hesitant at first — “I didn't know if consumers were going to like it,” he said — but added that “consumers loved it.”
Taco Bell is giving its turquoise Mountain Dew drink, Baja Blast, a new twist by serving the drink as a dessert.
“This is Baja Blast Gelato,” said Taco Bell's Chief Food Innovation Officer Liz Matthews, as she unveiled the fun gelato.
