Looking for innovative ways to give your home a major makeover? An interior designer shares some “inconspicuous” design elements that will add new interest to your space.
The impressive design idea was revealed in a viral video shared by House of Hive Design (@houseofhive), which has been viewed more than 239,000 times since it was first posted on February 20.
The caption accompanying the post read, “What I want to see more of as an interior designer.“The video features a woman speaking to the camera with different parts of her home in the background, highlighting design tweaks you should try.

The median cost of a home improvement in 2022 was $22,000, but the median cost for larger improvements reached more than $140,000, according to the survey.
That same year, homeowners reported having an average of nearly three interior projects underway at one time, with interior spaces being the most renovated area.
Unusual interior design ideas worth trying
As the woman in the video puts it, “As an interior designer, this is the untold list of things I want to see more of.”
Decorative ceiling
“I've been saying this for a while now, but decorative ceilings are often overlooked,” the designer points out, as the video shows a room with a striped ceiling.
“The stripes are awesome,” she said, adding that another option is to “paint the beams or paint fun colors between the beams.”

The video then shows a bedroom with stripes painted along the top edge of the wall. “Those little stripes really add character to the room,” the woman says.
Use artwork to hide storage
“I really love using artwork to hide storage,” says the designer, who shows liquor bottles and glasses on shelves placed between two artworks on either side.
“I thought this little hidden bar area was really cool,” the designer explained, adding, “I really love having it in the bathroom as an alternative to a traditional medicine cabinet.” The clip shows framed artwork displayed on the door of a shelf installed just above the bathroom toilet seat.
“We all have a lot of stuff, but it's important to hide it,” she says.
Artistic lamp shades
The designer also wants to see more “artistic lampshades.” The video shows a striking lampshade with a dragonfly pattern set against a bright red wall.
“I love this dragonfly print. [lampshade] It loops around the shape,” she points out.
“And the pattern on this candlestick is [wall-mounted small light fixture] “It's very interesting,” she says, as the video shows a bedroom with a striped lampshade and floral body on a bedside table.
“Even just changing out your lampshades can create a really unique look,” she advises.
Layered shower curtain
“And finally, the shower curtain. I love the layering,” she says, as the video shows two fabric curtains wrapped around the bathtub.
The video then cuts to another bathtub with a green curtain. “The way they used a roman shade-like curtain to surround the top of the bathtub is really cool,” the interior designer explained.
“Pattern makes it look so much better,” she advises, as the clip ends, showing a bathtub with burgundy walls and a candy-cane-patterned shower curtain.
