Mindy Kaling's creativity has fueled many iconic television shows and performances over the years. More exciting projects are in the works. comedy series The long-awaited movie starring Kate Hudson Legally Blonde 3—The actor, writer, and producer shows us how she gets creative from home. From the room she often works in (hint: it's not her office!) to clever solutions for muting loud kitchen appliances, the successful star is constantly finding inspiration and innovating at home. I am utilizing my skills.
Kaling's home, located in Los Angeles' Hancock Park, is full of bright, rich colors. It contains a vibrant office, but she never uses it. “I write from bed, so my office with a desk is now my kids' play area because I don't use it,” Kaling says. beautiful house. “But it's frustrating because I've always imagined having my laptop in a beautiful, stately office, but I just work from my bed like a consumer. I am lying down and having a nightcap as I write this.
Kaling says her bedroom is “very calming and bedroom-appropriate, with light blues and pastel colors” and is “very restrained on purpose.” Even better, her bed is equipped with her Leontine Linens custom-made bedding for lasting comfort. “katie ridderThe guy who designed my house was the one who said, 'If you don't get custom linens, you're nothing,''' Kaling recalls. “It was very, very expensive, but it was worth it.”
The home's open floor plan allows for an airy feel, but Kaling approached the challenge with a simple workaround. She explains: “My kitchen is right next to the TV room. My kids watch kids' shows at high volume. [in there] When I'm in the kitchen or cooking, they say, “It's too loud!” I don't know if I accomplished this challenge, but I learned that when I make smoothies or use air fryers or other loud devices, I have to move them to the pantry. Don't let the kids yell at you. ”
A marble countertop at the entrance to her pantry stores several noisy appliances she owns. This storage solution also helps keep your kitchen countertops clutter-free. “Whenever I have surfaces in my house, they tend to get cluttered quickly…but I don't like things to look messy,” Kaling says.
When Karin is out of the house, she doesn't have to go far to find inspiration for her creative endeavors. “We have a little place on the beach in Malibu,” she says. “I think walking on the beach is incredibly creatively inspiring.”
If you think that's a cliché, Karin once thought the same thing. “When I was a kid, I always got wide-eyed and energized by people who were like, 'I love walking on the beach,'” she explains. “And then I actually started doing them and thought, 'Oh, I totally get this.' We shouldn't scoff at this. This is real.'”
Kaling said she's “not really adapted to natural habitats,” adding that she doesn't go hiking in the forests of Southern California. “But for me, the beach and the ocean are much more intimate,” she says. “There are no deadly snakes, and it's not that hot, just enough to make you feel cool. So I really prefer the beach to almost any other natural environment.”
To inspire creativity in others, Kaling recently teamed up with Sharpie and Papermate to launch new colorful products. marker and gel pen. Similar to her LA home, the markers come in saturated colors, and the gel pens are more in line with the pastel color palette of her Malibu home. Whether it's the bright markers on index cards that visually help Kaling craft her stories as a comedy writer, or the vibrant interiors of her home, one thing is for sure: Kaling's life is full of color. It means that there is.
