James Gary “Peck” Kitchen, age 77, of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Ohio Sanctuary in Ironton, Ohio.
He was born Friday, January 17, 1947, in Carter County, Kentucky, son of the late James Logan and Elizabeth McDavid Kitchen.
“Peck” served as a Carter County Deputy Sheriff from 1978 to 1986 and was employed with the Carter County Road Maintenance Department for 27 years. He worked for many years as a mechanic for Blevins Sunoco, Exxon in Stumbo and Kitchen Service Station and also drove coal trucks. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, working as a mechanic, going to the movies and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph D. “Joe” Kitchen, and sister, Joyce Kitchen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Fraley Kitchen, one son, Gary Christopher (Tracy) Kitchen of Ashland, Kentucky, two daughters, Andrea Jolene (Anthony) Maggard of Greenup, Kentucky and Samantha Lane Kitchen of Ironton, Ohio, five grandchildren, Adriana Kitchen, Lauren Kitchen, Jaylen Kitchen, Liam Kitchen and Maddix Kitchen, two great-grandchildren, Alexa Elmore and Anthony Quintana, one sister, Arbutus Blevins of Grayson, Kentucky and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson, KY with Brother Steven Keyes officiating. Burial will follow in East Carter Memory Gardens, Grayson, KY.
Friends may visit from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 21st, 2024, and after 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, until the time of funeral service at Grayson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Kitchen, Mike Kitchen, Jeff Kitchen, Darin Blevins, Derek Blevins and Anthony Maggard.
