Kabbalah moves its Lancaster butcher and burger restaurant to the former Huber's West End Market in Lancaster and opens its first brick restaurant at its current location at 325 N. Queen St. Create space for Cheras Arepa Kitchen, a Peruvian and Venezuelan restaurant. – and mortar locations.
Construction is underway on the new Cabalar restaurant at 501 W. Lemon St., which will be nearly three times the size of the current restaurant and feature a full bar. An application to transfer the spot's liquor license was filed earlier this month, and owner Steve Cavara said the timing of its approval will likely determine when the new restaurant can debut.
“Construction is not going to sustain the project. If anything, it would be the liquor license,” said Cavallar, who believes the new restaurant could open in late summer or early fall.
Cabalar originally opened on Queen Street in 2018, but has since renovated its 1,900-square-foot space and added a taproom operated by East Petersburg-based Mad Chef Brewing. There are about 50 seats in total.
Kabbalah's new home will have approximately 8,500 square feet of space, including event space on the second floor, with seating for approximately 160 total. The outdoor patio seats approximately 60 people.
After more than 60 years in business, Huber's West End Market closed in 2021. Part of that space is now occupied by Hush Money Bikes, a bike shop whose owners recruited Cavallar. The building was previously considered as a studio and rehearsal space, as well as a new location for the Horse Inn.
The property is owned by Adam and Tracy Davis, who purchased it in April 2021 for $1.01 million. Adam Davis is the CEO of his Lititz-based event staging company, Tait Group.
Owner Luis Quiroz said that for Cheras, the move to 325 N. Queen St. fulfills a long-held ambition to have a restaurant in downtown Lancaster. Chellas currently operates a food trailer at 1830 Hempstead Road near Costco and Lowe's, and that trailer will remain after the new restaurant debuts.
Quiros said the Queen Street restaurant will be able to add more items to its gluten-free menu, including Peruvian ceviche. Mad Chef Brewing plans to maintain its taproom after Cheras moves in.
Huber's West End Market in Lancaster will close on Sunday to be rebuilt under new ownership.
