In an email interview with Alok Duggal, head of Norte India, we learn about the modular manufacturer's recently launched social kitchen concept, the trend of modular kitchens incorporating smart tech,・You can also get a glimpse of the presence at Del Mobile 2018.
AD: You recently launched the Norte India Social Kitchen concept with architect Sandeep Khosla and chef Manu Chandra. What does a social kitchen represent?
Alok Duggal: After over a decade of establishing our brand in India and installing over 7,000 kitchens, we are starting to understand the pulse of the social fabric here. In our research and interactions with consumers, we found that the typical function of a kitchen has changed over the years. With the entire family away from home for work, meetings, and other commitments, preparing and serving breakfast happens at the same time people update each other's schedules, etc.
Similarly, if a house party is being held after work on a Friday, the prep work can be done while guests mingle in the kitchen itself, creating a sociable atmosphere in the space. Thus, the kitchen became the center of the home. This is essentially what led to the launch of this concept called Social Kitchen.
AD: How adaptable and customizable is Nolte India's Social Kitchen?
Alok Duggal: Norte India kitchens are designed to be equal parts style, functionality and ease of use. Gone are the days when kitchens were designed solely for preparing the day's meals. Today's kitchens also serve as spaces for socializing with family and entertaining friends. With this in mind, our kitchen designs can be customized and adapted to suit large and small families, as well as individuals who appreciate good design.
