CalFire is assisting firefighters battling a blaze near Kitchen Creek Road in the Lake Morena area.
SAN DIEGO — A fire broke out Monday morning near Kitchen Creek Road near Lake Morena in San Diego County, with smoke visible from miles away.
Cal Fire air and ground crews are assisting Cleveland National Forest crews in battling a backcountry blaze dubbed the #KitchenFire.
The fire has burned 25 acres and is burning at a moderate rate, according to an 11:42 a.m. Twitter update from the Cleveland National Forest. Thirteen fire engines, four crews and six aircraft are on the scene. Smoke is visible from I-8 and surrounding areas.

Prepare for wildfire evacuation
CalFire has compiled a list of items to have ready in case you and your family need to evacuate during a wildfire or disaster.
Make sure your bushfire “bug bag” includes the following:
- Three days' worth of non-perishable food and three gallons of water per person
- A map showing at least two evacuation routes
- Necessary prescriptions and medications
- Change of clothes and spare glasses/contact lenses
- Spare car keys, credit cards, cash, traveller's cheques
- First aid kit and hygiene products
- Flashlight and battery-operated radio with spare batteries
- Copies of important documents (birth certificate, passport, etc.)
- Pet food and water
Always keep sturdy shoes and a flashlight near your bed in case of a sudden nighttime evacuation.
If you have time, consider adding the following:
- Easy to carry valuables
- Family photos and irreplaceable possessions
- Computer data on hard drives and disks
- Mobile phone and laptop chargers
