There's nothing quite like watching Gordon Ramsay verbally criticize someone's restaurant Kitchen nightmare — before making improvements, of course. After his visit, plenty of yelling, and a new and improved design and menu, the restaurant usually gets a new chance to become the next hot spot in town.
Last season, one of the locations that caught the attention of many viewers was Diwan. In case you were wondering, Diwan is an Indian restaurant located in Port Washington, New York. What makes this restaurant different from other Indian restaurants is that a few months back, the same kitchen also ran a Mexican restaurant called Loco. And, yes, the chef of both restaurants was the same.
Following Ramsay's visit in June 2023 (though the episode aired in December), the restaurant underwent a major transformation: new safety measures were implemented, a new menu was created featuring an entirely new lineup of dishes, and finally, a stunning redesign was completed. But is the restaurant still open, or did it withstand the owner's stubbornness?
The Diwan is Kitchen nightmare Open?
Diwan, the Indian restaurant featured in the Season 8 finale, is indeed still open for business. Yelp reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with Diwan currently having an average rating of 4.1. However, according to several Reddit users, the restaurant has reversed some of Ramsay's changes. One of the world-famous chef's main criticisms was that the food was bland and lacked the Indian authenticity that owner Bobby was aiming for when he opened the restaurant.
After changing the menu and recipes, the food is said to be tastier than ever. However, various online sources say that Bobby quickly reverted to the old menu. “Bobby claimed that patrons didn't like Gordon's recipes and were requesting their old favorites,” one user said, adding that Ramsay's menu only lasted “four days” in total. Another user commented that Bobby “didn't take the relaunch seriously.”
At the same time, one of Ramsay's biggest challenges was getting Bobby out of the kitchen and into the restaurant as an owner. According to the same Reddit user, it looks like Bobby is keeping his promise and is actually working at the front desk. “Bobby was at the front desk,” the user said, admitting that “in all the years that I went to Diwan, I didn't know he was the owner.” At the very least, you can't blame Bobby for not being involved in his own business.
Without a doubt, one of the highlights of this episode was the waiter Fernandes. Soon the Diwan waiter Kitchen nightmare' One of the best participants, he was praised for his passion, kindness, enthusiasm and a really witty and hilarious personality. Many fans were hoping that Gordon would invite Fernandes to one of his restaurants, but it seems his passion has not left Diwan and he continues to work in Indian restaurants.
So if you want to meet Fernandez, and maybe even have a tasty, seasoned meal, if not Gordon, you can head to Port Washington.
