Despite their extensive experience in the restaurant industry, the two co-owners of South Brooklyn Foundry found themselves heavily in debt and on the brink of closing. By season 8 of Kitchen Nightmares, the restaurant was over $120,000 in debt and no one knew what the future held. The co-owners also disagreed on financial management and how much effort (and financial support) to put into the restaurant. Ramsay's work was focused on bringing staffing and kitchen operations up to standard. Owner Kelly, who handled the business side, was receptive to the feedback. But the chef was less than enthusiastic and eventually left the restaurant.

After the show wrapped, the chef returned with a renewed determination to create the best food possible. He collaborated with co-owner Kelly Agnes to bring to life the vision they created together. The improvements are clear, with over 250 five-star reviews on Yelp, many of which focus on the restaurant's great food and ambiance. South Brooklyn Foundry has since made some changes to its menu, but still offers delicious brunch, lunch, and dinner staples, including pancakes, eggs Benedict, roasted salmon, and crispy Brussels sprouts. The burger Ramsay ordered is still on the menu, and although it's pricier, it has received rave reviews.
