Good evening, kibitzers!
Hey everyone, how are you all dealing with the heatwave today? It's in the 90s today and tomorrow, and honestly, as long as the lights are on, a little warmer during the week is pretty much pointless. If the weather gods listen to my suggestions (which they clearly aren't), I hope some cooler air gets to those who need it more.
I'd love to make ice cream, but that won't happen until the weekend and, to be realistic, would require a lot more freezer space than I have now. By the time I clean out the freezer, I'll be much less inclined to do it than making ice cream, but maybe that'll be a 4th of July project. If anyone makes ice cream, I'd welcome recipe suggestions, but I think the chocolate recipe is the most likely to be tried.
❧ A few years ago, I was here Scale: Solar Systemis a project where two young filmmakers built and filmed a life-scale model of our solar system in the Nevada desert. The project won many awards and they even produced a “making of” video. scale YouTube channel (and its diary).
The filmmakers are Wiley Overstreet and Alex Golosh, who describe their channel as “a series of short science films that examine one of the most overlooked aspects of the universe: its incredible scale.” And now they've added another film. Scale: TimeBelow is the text from the YouTube page:
In a dry lake bed in the Mojave Desert, a group of friends build a practical-scale time model that depicts 13.8 billion years of the evolution of the universe and our place in it. Best viewed in 4K on the largest screen, with high quality audio or headphones.
Also check out their PDF downloadable webpage that lists the points on both the two timelines they have constructed: the 1 million year, 1 km model of humanity and the 13.8 billion year, 6.9 km model of the universe starting from the Big Bang. The other site I would like to point you to is about the idea of making a 5-part limited edition of their concept. scale A series that starts with atoms. I hope it gets funded! [10:20]
Accompanying How to Build a Scale Model of Time It's pretty funny, and at the end it gets a little emotional. The last song is by John Craigie. Dissecting a Birdfull lyrics here.

I thought this was a good advertisement for the super PAC “The Seneca Project.” As always, KTK management is happy to support former Republicans (not all of them are Republicans) who want to help re-elect President Biden, but showing this video should not be perceived as an endorsement of donations to this super PAC at a time when there are so many Democratic campaigns that need our donations. Another: Parody writer Patrick Fitzgerald's Eddie Grant Electric Avenue I thought I'd make a little song about TFG's weird battery and shark obsession. Electric canoeBy the way, the song ends when tfg's actual speech starts playing, so if you can't stand to hear him sing, you can safely press “stop.” [2:02]
In the public interest, I would like to state that The Borowitz Reporta former satirical feature New Yorker The articles I was excerpting here during the epidemic are now on Substack, which has a free tier, so if you like Andy Borowitz's work, you can read them here. For example:
Biden wears shark costume to debate
ATLANTA (The Borowitz Report) — In a strategy some have called a masterpiece of psychological warfare, President Biden revealed Tuesday that he will appear at this week's televised debate dressed as a shark. […]
In a seemingly taunting move, Biden appeared in a video today dressed as a carnivorous sea creature and told Trump, “Shark week has come early.”
