Hudson Companies and Housing Works recently broke ground on The Lirio, a mixed-use development located at 364 West 54th Street in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen. The project will transform a vacant parking lot into 112 permanent affordable housing units, MTA office space, and neighborhood retail space. Designed by CetraRuddy and being constructed in collaboration with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and other partners, The Lirio will provide 67 supportive housing units for formerly homeless individuals, including 59 units for long-term HIV/AIDS survivors, 44 affordable housing units for households making 30-120% of the area median income, and one caretaker unit.
The development is aiming for Passive House standards and LEED Gold certification and will participate in the NYSERDA Multifamily Performance Program. Construction will begin after the project closes on $119 million in construction financing in April 2024. Construction is expected to be completed by 2026.
“I am excited to break ground on Lilio, which will bring 112 units of affordable housing to Hell's Kitchen,” said New York City Council Member Eric Bottcher. “This transformative project will not only address a housing need in the area, but will also provide local retail and services to some of New Yorkers' most vulnerable. I am grateful to all of the partners involved and look forward to seeing this project come to completion.”
