LINCOLN, Neb. (COLOGNE) – Lincoln Bike Kitchen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to repairing used and broken bicycles and delivering them to people in need, is moving to a new location.
On Wednesday, Bike Kitchen announced it would take over the old municipal pool building in the Telegraph District, which had been vacant for years.
When volunteers asked the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department if they could rent the building, they got an easy yes.
The new space will have more room for mechanics to work and store bikes, allowing more bikes to go to the people who need them.
“This facility will actually allow us to offer more bikes than we already have,” said Bob von Köhnel, chairman of the board and mechanic. “Last year we gave away 1,324 of his bikes and this facility will allow us to expand that even further.”
The goal is to start working in the new building in August.
But before that, the building needs to be renovated and an annex will be built to serve as a kitchen and bicycle storage.
To support its efforts, you can donate to its capital campaign by donating to the organization through its “Donate on Lincoln Day” campaign.

So far, they have raised $363,000 of the $500,000 needed.
