Coombe Karan police arrested a resident of Malewal village for sowing poppy seeds in his kitchen garden and seized 15 kg of poppies.
The accused was identified as Gurdeep Singh. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar, who is investigating the case, said he received a tip that the accused had planted poppies in his kitchen garden and erected a dry grass fence around it to hide it. Ta.
A police team conducted a raid and seized the plants. According to police, the suspects did not have permits to cultivate these plants, which are used to extract opium and poppy husks.
ASI added that a case under sections 16, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Khum Kalan police station.
