Shocking surveillance video shows a brawl in broad daylight on a Manhattan sidewalk. The suspect slashed the victim in the abdomen with a knife and carried out the terrifying attack with the terrier in tow.
The confrontation on 54th Street near 9th Street in Hell's Kitchen on Monday afternoon was captured on security camera outside the deli. The two involved exchanged words and the disturbance quickly escalated.
One of the men was seen walking a small dog, believed to be a Yorkie, with a leash in his right hand. He then switched it to his left hand and drew his blade with his other hand.
The dog walker repeatedly swung at the 56-year-old victim, who grabbed a nearby construction cone and turned around. The victim was slashed in the abdomen and the other man casually drove off, with Yorkie following him as he crossed Ninth Avenue.
Police say a dog walker with a knife told the injured man he was going to cut him.
People living in the area were shaken by the attack.
“When is it going to end? This doesn't seem like the old neighborhood. This is like a new era that's going to take away jobs,” said Richie Friendly, who was born and raised in Hell's Kitchen. “What do you do? Tell me. I have to keep a fixed point. How comfortable is that? Walking the dog or walking down the street. I'm scared of who I'll bump into right now. Do I say hello? If not, please raise your hand. ”
The injured man is expected to recover. Police said it is not immediately clear what sparked the fight.
