If there's one thing we learned from Martha, it's that you'll be amazed at how much you can get done in a day. Founders wake up at 5 a.m. to check off their to-do list and get to work. She even finds a way to complete mundane chores during her busy day. What's her latest lesson in multitasking? She grouts the kitchen floor before the day's work.
After sitting down to get her hair done, Martha had enough time to grout the kitchen floor before heading to New York City to begin work. “She may sound crazy, but she finished her job in about 35 minutes, answering phones and making calendar appointments,” she said in her recent blog post.
Once Martha's signature voluminous blowout was complete, she began restoring the marble floor. This was actually the garden paving of an old mansion on Long Island. She started by walking around the entire kitchen and servers, placing sticky notes next to every section of grout that needed refilling.
After thoroughly vacuuming the crack, Martha mixed a small amount of cement with polymer-modified unsanded grout and added water until a paste formed. She put on her gloves and wiped clean the area that was going to be re-grouted. “I then used a plastic disposable spoon to patch and smooth the grout into her eyes,” she wrote. She moved in one direction, making sure to catch all the joints that needed repair.
After applying the grout, I used a sponge to remove the excess. To ensure that the new grout blended into the old grout, Martha used a soft-bristled brush to apply a small amount of dark brown to the white grout, then always wiped away any excess tea left on the weathered grout.
The entire project took Martha only about 30 minutes from start to finish. “Before a full day of work,” she wrote. “I hope this article inspires you to finish some small DIY projects around the house and check things off your never-ending to-do list. ”
