HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Mobile catering company Mary's Girl in the Kitchen, serving hearty home-cooked meals across Oahu, will be taking part in the Juneteenth Block Party in Waikiki this Wednesday.
Owner and military veteran Nexia Cole appeared on HNN's Sunrise to talk about her business, which she launched in 2022 inspired by her mother, Marian, and recipes passed down from her ancestors. Cole said her menu is a homage to her ancestors' heritage and brings people together through the power of comfort food. She has captivated fans with her hearty, flavorful dishes.
“Growing up in Florida, we didn't have much, but we had food to eat,” Cole said, “and that's how my mother and grandmothers showed their love.”
Cole says he aims to create unforgettable dining experiences that celebrate his rich cultural heritage and the joy of good food, making food that not only satisfies the appetite but also warms the soul.
Mary's Girl in the Kitchen can be found at the What the Truck? food festival held the first and third Friday of each month at Waikele Center, as well as various markets and events around the island. Cole also offers catering services.
