MASSENA — The Massena Salvation Society has raised $116,000 for a new kitchen to provide meals to the needy in the area, but there is still money to be raised.
“We still need to raise a total of $150,000 to begin this much-needed project,” said Lt. Nicholas White of the Massena Salvation Army. “The rising cost of living continues to have a major impact on people struggling to pay for food, and we've seen a steady increase in the number of families and individuals seeking assistance from the Salvation Army.”
The Massena Salvation Army currently has a food pantry that provides food to those in need five days a week, but because there is no official soup kitchen in the area that provides meals, the new soup kitchen will allow the Salvation Army to provide 400-500 meals each day and provide other essential services to individuals and families.
“We are so grateful to those who have already stepped up to generously support this fantastic project,” Lt. Gov. White added. “This new kitchen will help us continue our important programs and services for years to come.”
Lt. Gov. White added that financial support for the project has already come from the Arconic Foundation, Empire State Development Fund, Seacom Federal Credit Union, Northern New York Community Foundation, Brookfield Renewable Energy, Liberty Utilities and a Louisville Hockey Arena fundraiser, among others.
