During Monday night's heated episode of My Kitchen Rules, tensions reached a fever pitch after Christian asked fellow contestant Brigita a very direct question.
As the contestants gathered around the dinner table, Christian, 34, boldly said: “We need to address the elephant in the room.”
“Are you pregnant?” Christian asked Brigita.
His personal question shocked fellow contestants and judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge, who all expressed disbelief that he would ask such a thing.
“Are you calling me fat?” a defiant Brigita shot back.
However, Brigita and her sister Patricia admit that she is indeed pregnant, and the tension in the room eases.
“Yes, I'm a big elephant. I'm a six-month pregnant elephant,” Brigita said, while her sister Patricija added: “First team of three!” Wow!
Christian later admitted that he took a “huge risk” in asking the personal question, which could have easily backfired if he got it wrong.
Asking a woman if she is pregnant is generally considered a social error because it is considered a personal question that makes assumptions about the woman's appearance.
The new season of Channel Seven's My Kitchen Rules started earlier this month and judge Colin Fassnidge promised viewers they'd be in for quite a treat.
“We had MKR in the past, and now we have MKR using steroids,” he told Yahoo LIfestyle.
The 49-year-old celebrity chef added that fans can expect “a little bit of drama” after last year's low-key competition.
“This is actually one of the best years,” he continued. “We went from quiet to not-so-quiet. It's a combination of people on steroids and some great people.”
For most of its history, MKR has been known for infighting between contestants, and no season is complete without a few outrageous “villains.”
