NEW ALBANY — Sisters Kathy Proctor and Becky Sleeth have incorporated their shared love of home decor into a new small business in downtown New Albany.
Re-Homed Decor opened Nov. 1 at 151 E. Spring Street. Consignment stores sell used and new home decor items.
“This is actually something we've always wanted to do,” Proctor said. “As sisters, we've always enjoyed decorating. We shop a lot in home decor stores, so we always said we needed to open a store like this. We've been doing it for a long time. I kept saying that, but in the end I decided to do it.”
This is the sisters' first time running a small business. Mr Proctor said their adventure had been difficult but rewarding.
“It really hasn't been easy. We put a lot of time and effort into it because it's so hard work, and it's different every day,” Proctor said. “There are a lot of shippers right now, and there are more and more shippers.”
Sleeth said starting the business was “scary at times,” but she enjoyed working with her sister to make the vision a reality. She also enjoys meeting new people.
Our inventory is constantly changing as new products arrive frequently. The store focuses on “more modern” decor rather than antiques, and used items must be “like new.”
“We're a small space, so we need to keep things that can move quickly,” Proctor said.
As Christmas approaches, stores fill up with festive holiday items, from ornaments to reindeer decorations. Last weekend, the store participated in Develop New Albany's Jingle Walk, and the sisters are currently preparing for this weekend's Small Business Saturday and Light Up New Albany events. .
The small store receives support from other businesses in downtown New Albany, including Mariposa Consignments and the adjacent Madhouse boutique.
“That’s something I’ve always wanted to do: be involved in Develop New Albany and stay in touch with other business owners and support each other,” Proctor said.
Proctor said he has received positive feedback since opening.
“Everyone has had a lot of good feedback,” she said. [There are] We have many repeat customers. ”
The store is as busy as ever, and has recently been operating “non-stop.”
“We didn't expect this,” Proctor said. “That was amazing.”
Re-Home Decor is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
