Happy Monday, Birmingham! Tons of great new things are opening across the city this week. From a Nashville-inspired burger joint in Avondale to a family-run bookstore in Leeds, read on to find out what's new and coming soon to this magical city.
In session
1. Mama Nem | Rising West Princeton
Just in time for major league games to arrive at Rickwood Field, this highly anticipated soul food restaurant has opened just off Lombe Avenue. Mama Nem Southern Kitchen specializes in home-style cooking, serving up everything from biscuits and gravy to steak and lobster dinners in a fine-dining atmosphere.
“I wanted to create a place where people could start their day with a hot meal of biscuits, gravy and coffee in the morning, and then come in the evening for a delicious, affordable dinner that looks great. I'm really looking forward to having that feel in my own home.”
Chris Hollerman, Owner of Mama Nem Southern Kitchen
2. Barrow Bookstore | Leeds
A new bookstore will have its grand opening in downtown Leeds on Monday, June 24. Barrow Bookstore is run by Leeds locals Andy and Josh Argo, who wanted to open a place where the community could come together over books and good conversation.
3. Publix | Lane Park
In case you haven't noticed yet, the GreenWise Market at Lane Park in Mountain Brook Village has completed its transformation into a traditional Publix. A little over a year ago, Publix announced that it would be converting its eco-friendly GreenWise Market stores to the Publix brand.
Despite the switch, some GreenWise brands will remain on store shelves.
coming soon
4. Joyland | Avondale
You may remember that earlier this year, Nashville-based burger joint Joyland announced it would be moving into the former Rodney Scott's location in Avondale, with the restaurant's sign recently going up and the building painted in Joyland's trademark rainbow colors.
While the restaurant hasn't announced an opening date, they are excited to have Joyland join the Avondale community.
5. Fairway Social | Urban Supply
Atlanta-based sports bar Fairway Social will soon open in Parkside's new Urban Supply development. An entertainment destination for all ages, Fairway Social blends sports and entertainment through its simulator bays and virtual sports games (from competitive golf to zombie dodgeball).
6. Dave's Pub | Five points
The wait is (almost) over! Last month, we reported that beloved local bar Dave's Pub had been sold to new owners and would be closing for minor renovations. New owners Dan and Sherri Williams say the pub is planning a soft opening on July 1st.
7. Chipotle | Moody
A new Chipotle location is opening soon. It will be Moody's first Chipotle and will also have a drive-thru window.
