Niu Life Kitchen, South Maui Fish Company and Wailuku Coffee Company receive Hawaii Green Business Program Awards : Maui Now

The Hawaii Green Business Program (HGBP) on Friday honored its largest ever list of Hawaii companies and events for energy efficiency and sustainable business practices.

The 2023-24 award recipients included seven Maui County businesses: Niu Life Kitchen, South Maui Fish Co., Wailuku Coffee Co., Four Seasons Resort Wailea, Maui Bay Villas, Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi and Sensei Lānaʻi (A Four Seasons Resort). Recognized as a Green Event winner was the Sentry 2023 Golf Tournament held at Kapalua Plantation Course.

Governor Josh Green praised the winners for demonstrating their commitment to conserving energy and water, reducing waste and protecting Hawaii's environment. “Hawaii will not abandon our commitment to a more resilient, clean economy,” said Governor Green. “We must change the way we do business, and show others what this change looks like. Dedicating our energy (literally) to renewal and regeneration is what nature is calling us to do.”

The 40 recipients, representing the five islands, were recognized at the annual HGBP Awards Ceremony in the Governor's Ceremony Room at the State Capitol. The ceremony was hosted by the Hawaii Department of Energy, Hawaii Department of Health, Honolulu Water Department and Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Hilton Grand Vacations Club Maui Bay Villas The following sustainability initiatives were recognized:

• Irrigation water will be provided from an existing natural well on the property that is equipped with electronic monitoring.
• Use of water-saving plumbing fixtures;
• Energy Star appliances;
• All buildings are equipped with on-demand water heaters.
• Utility management systems used to monitor kilowatt hours, propane gas usage, water and waste.
• Native plant species used throughout the site
• Recycling Program
• Community activities with Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club

Four Seasons Resort Wailea The following sustainability initiatives were recognized:

• The refillable “Pathwater” aluminum water bottle program distributes a bottle to each guest's room upon arrival and has water refill stations on every floor.
• We have installed low-flow showerheads (1.75 gallons per minute (gpm)) throughout the facility.
• Water-saving faucets and toilets
• Eliminate disposable plates, cutlery and cups.
• Guestrooms feature large, refillable toiletries made from 100% recycled plastic.
• A recycling program is in place.
• All food outlets have composting programs.
• Lobby Lounge, DUO Steak and Seafood and Ferraro's Bar e Ristorante have all been certified as Ocean Friendly Restaurants by the Surfrider Foundation, recognizing their efforts in making sustainable choices for the ocean.
• We provide complimentary Project Reef reef-safe (oxybenzone-free, octinoxate-free) sunscreen to all guests.
• Our ongoing partnership with Keālia Ponds and Four Seasons will restore habitat for the endemic Neneh Geese on a dedicated one-acre plot with restored native and Polynesian plants.
