Shiza Shahid, founder of Our Place, felt there needed to be a balance between fun and practicality when cooking in the kitchen, which led to the creation of the WonderOven. “We combined the most useful features into one appliance with the goal of reducing confusion and making the whole cooking experience more enjoyable,” she told Wallpaper*.

Our Place was founded on the principle of making cooking and sharing meals as easy as possible. The functional brand was Shahid's logical and necessary response to the glut of cookware on the market. After immigrating to the United States, she reflected on her childhood memories in Pakistan, where her family would prepare a variety of dishes with one or two staple pans. This inspired Shahid to create products that celebrated globally diverse culinary traditions and multicultural kitchens.

“The home cooking traditions of communities like mine have often been erased, appropriated or ignored in food media and the mainstream kitchenware industry,” Shahid previously told Wallpaper*. “I know what it means to me to feel that my traditions are recognised and highlighted, and that's what we aim to do at Our Place through our storytelling, product design, philanthropy and platform.”

The Wonder Oven is the newest addition to the Our Place family. The small but powerful countertop appliance is designed to reduce the need for multiple kitchen appliances. The compact design offers multiple functions while saving space and time – toast, roast, reheat, bake, air fry and grill – all wrapped up in a cute, minimalist design in four color ways: Steam, Spice, Blue Salt and Char.

The design mechanics are based on steam infusion technology, a feature Shahid was happy to adopt. “I grew up eating freshly baked bread, roti, every day and that love for freshly baked bread remains with me, which is why I love the WonderOven's steam infusion feature, which makes day-old bread taste like it's just come out of the oven,” she explained. “I also grew up eating a lot of delicious fried foods like samosas and French fries and I love that the air fryer feature makes it a much healthier way to make them.” […] now [making] Light meals and course dinners largely It's as easy as turning a knob.
