As a former host and judge on the iconic cooking competition show best chefIn addition to being the creator and host of taste the country, Padma Lakshmi has spent a significant portion of her life in the culinary arena. Unsurprisingly, the cookbook author, television personality, and model's home kitchen is a sight to behold. Artfully decorated and equipped with all the appliances a home chef could dream of.
We are particularly impressed with Lakshmi's storage solutions. In her recent Instagram post, she showed off her red-painted kitchen. We love her hanging pots. This is a proven way to store and display your cookware collection.
This is the aesthetic we've seen in most historical kitchens over the years (all that time spent watching period dramas is worth it). But there's a reason this age-old kitchen storage method is a classic. It's cool.
Hanging pots and pans can be used as a storage method in large kitchens, but they're especially useful in small spaces where shelving is limited.
“In a compact kitchen, vertical space is your best friend,” says Matt Ayres, appliance expert at RDO Kitchen and Appliances. “Install shelves or racks on the walls to store items such as spices, tableware, and small appliances.”
For hanging shelves, the placement should be customized based on the logistics of your kitchen. Consider the most accessible location when cooking, while also keeping in mind the location that will least impact your daily activities (no one will have to hunker down).
“You can also install hooks and rails under your cabinets to hang things like mugs, pots, and pans, freeing up valuable cabinet and counter space,” Ayers explains. “If you have enough free wall space, consider adding a large pegboard with hooks to hang frequently used pots and utensils.”
Vertical storage extends beyond hanging shelves. By making it taller rather than wider, you can strategically maximize space in even the smallest kitchen. Ayers recommends keeping this sentiment in mind when designing your kitchen and considering what you store in each storage space.
“If you're starting from scratch when designing your kitchen, installing tall cabinets and pantries that reach all the way to the ceiling can help maximize storage space,” says Ayers. 'Use the top shelf to store items you don't use frequently or bulky items such as small appliances or tableware. Consider installing pull-out shelves or baskets to make it easier to access items stored in the back. ”
