Hell's KitchenAlicia Keys' new jukebox musical, “The Musical,” opened on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre on April 20. The musical, with music and lyrics by Keys and a book by Christopher Diaz, stars Tony Award winners Maria Joy Moon and Kecia Lewis.
Inspired by the life of the 15-time Grammy Award winner, the story revolves around 17-year-old Ali and her mother, living in a cramped apartment near Times Square. Ali wants to fulfill her dreams in New York, but her mother fears her daughter will repeat the same mistakes. Along the way, a wise piano teacher opens Ali's eyes to the power of music and the legacy of her birthright as an artist.
Water for elephants It officially opened at the Imperial Theatre on March 21. Based on the acclaimed novel by Sarah Gruen, the hit musical stars Rick Ellis (Peter and the Starcatcher), lyrics and music by PigPen Theatre Company (The Tale of DespereauxTony Award nominee Jessica Stone (Kimberly Akimbo) will be directing.
The film tells the story of a man who runs away from his life and finds himself caught up in a traveling circus, falling into a world of love and lies. His adventure, seen through the eyes of an older man, is a poignant reminder that life truly can be restarted at any age, if you choose to travel.
