This week's quiz: On April 27, I asked about an article titled “‘Massive’ Task to Find Looted African Art in French Museums,” which addressed a very real ongoing problem in Western museums that house art and artifacts that were likely stolen during colonial times.
But discovering the actual origins of many of the works is a long and arduous process — the kind of detective work you'd do tracking down a murderer or a bank robber, but this is an entirely new type of investigation with very little to offer in terms of leads, sources, etc.
With many museums now trying to figure out how pieces came into their collections, two French universities are offering courses in this new field of “art detective work.”So, your question was, “What are the names of the two French universities that are currently offering courses in art provenance research?”
Here's the answer: University of Paris Nanterre and the Louvre.
In addition to the quiz questions, there were also bonus questions.“Which is mightier, money or the pen, and how?” was the question posed by Rafik Khondaker from Naogaon, Bangladesh.
Have an idea for a bonus question? Send it in!
The winners are as follows: RFI Listeners Club member Sharifa Akhter Panna from Kishoreganj, Bangladesh. Sharifa is also the winner of this week's bonus question. Congratulations Sharifa!
This week's list of lucky winners also includes Salim Akhtar Chadar, president of RFI Seven Stars Radio Listeners Club, Chiniot District, Pakistan; Nafisa Khatun, president of RFI Mahilashrotha Sangha Club, West Bengal, India; and Ferhat Bezazel, president of RFI Ain Kechera Butterflies Club, West Skikda, Algeria.
Rounding out the list is Abdul Manan Teacher, an RFI Listeners Club member from Sirajganj, Bangladesh, and lastly, Shihabur Rahman Khan, an RFI English listener from Bogra, Bangladesh.
Here's the music you heard on the show this week: Traditional Swiss folk songs sung by Swiss Ladies. “Funk No.1” by Juna Selita performed by Tokyo Groove Girls. “Flight of the Bumblebee” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Kids Corner Claude Debussy's “Happy” is performed by the composer himself. Pharrell Williams' “Happy” and Balthazar Naturel's “Misemo” are arranged and performed by Monsieur MÂLÂ.
