Megan Duffy got to work quickly after arriving in Blacksburg as Virginia Tech women's basketball coach in early April. She added a new coaching staff and retained several players from the 2023-24 roster that Kenny Brooks had put together before leaving for Kentucky in late March, two days after the Hokies were eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by Baylor.
Duffy is already beginning to make her mark on the Hokies program beyond the 2024-25 season: On Memorial Day night, Duffy landed a major commitment from North Carolina guard Katie Sears for the class of 2025. Late last week, another key recruiter for Duffy announced she plans to make a commitment decision from a list of six schools on Wednesday.
Guard Kamryn Kitchen, who was reclassified from the Class of 2025 to 2024, has announced she will be attending the University of Virginia. She chose the Cavaliers Virginia Tech, Pennsylvania State University, University of Illinois, University of Louisville, and Marquette University.
Kitchen told 247Sports he visited Virginia Tech when Brooks was still the head coach but never received a scholarship offer. Kitchen visited again after Duffy was hired and the former Marquette coach offered him a scholarship, but Kitchen also said Duffy had never visited Marquette before moving to Blacksburg.
