The Home Edit remodeled Reese Witherspoon's iconic kitchen, and the result is the ultimate inspiration for a sleek, organized space. We're ready to recreate every detail, from the open-concept shelving to the seamless fridge organization. Luckily, we spoke to our favorite interior designers and professional organization experts to find out exactly how.
The first notable feature of Reese's kitchen makeover is the gold-hued, open-concept shelving set against the brick wall. “Open shelving in a kitchen blends practicality with style, creating a space that's both functional and beautiful,” says West Chester-based interior designer Nina Lichtenstein. She continues, “Carefully organizing and curating the items on your shelves can transform your kitchen into a unique, inviting space that exudes warmth and reflects your unique taste and lifestyle.”
Reese's open-concept shelving isn't just beautiful — it's also a hot interior design trend. “The Reese's kitchen shelving concept is super popular right now. It gives your kitchen a cool open-kitchen restaurant vibe and creates the illusion of more space,” says Juliana Melamed, founder of Full Service Living, a luxury organization and storage company based in New York City.
Plus, recreating your kitchen shelves is easy. Homes and Gardens“We recently achieved a similar look for a client by installing floating shelves from Container Store and organizing each shelf according to a specific type or glassware.”
Once your shelves are built, the only thing left to do is style your kitchen – decide what to display and how. “Organize your shelves by grouping items by function. Put everyday crockery and glassware on the lower shelves for easy access, and less used items on the upper shelves. This will not only make your kitchen more functional, but it will also make your shelves look neater and more purposeful,” advises Lichtenstein.
To enhance your kitchen, Lichtenstein recommends: “Highlight unique and special tableware, like handmade pottery, vintage bowls, and heirlooms. These items will serve as focal points and conversation starters. Intersperse functional pieces with decorative items, like vases, small potted plants, and framed photographs. These elements will add character and warmth to your kitchen.”
The second most notable aspect of Reese's kitchen organization is her fridge full of boxes. “Having boxes inside the fridge is so ingenious!” says Melamed.
“Refrigerators have deep shelves, so having pull-out storage shelves allows you to utilize the entire fridge (front to back) instead of just the front. Of course, the storage shelves look nicer too. I recommend buying storage shelves with dividers to prevent small clutter inside each shelf.”

Although your fridge isn't on display like open concept shelving, having a well-designed fridge can make your life easier. Organization bins are a great place to start.
The first box is perfect for displaying taller items like sauces or bagged items. The second box is stackable, so it's perfect for storing veggies, which is what we were drawn to. Finally, we couldn't help but include this ingenious egg organizer in our roundup. Not only does it drastically reduce the amount of space eggs take up in your fridge, but it's also incredibly cute.
As Witherspoon kitchen storage shows, the best kitchens are both design-first and functional. To achieve this balance in your home, it's best to start with some careful planning. Think about how you'll use your kitchen most often. Are you a home cook? Are you an entertainer? Is your kitchen a luxury storage space? Answering these questions will help you decide what to show off and what to keep tucked away.
