Soup Kitchen is looking for volunteers to come to the soup kitchen and bring clothing donations from the outdoor donation box to the soup kitchen's clothing bank. Volunteers can do this once a day, to the best of their ability. If you can only do it a few times a week, other volunteers can cover other days of the week. Volunteers need to be able to lift and carry clothing inside to sort and hang it up.
Stage 9 We will be performing “Androcles and the Lion” from August 1st to August 4th, 2024. Volunteers are needed to sew period costumes prior to performance. Volunteers must be able to read and follow patterns with instructions. Materials will be provided. Volunteers can work from home or on Stage 9 during show rehearsals. We also need volunteers to help paint the set during rehearsal times (TBD). Previous painting experience and the ability to paint large pieces is an advantage.
Birthright We are seeking volunteer office staff. Qualifications include a desire to help others, especially young women. Training will be provided. Minimum age is 18. We also need Spanish to English translator volunteers to translate between clients who come into the agency and staff volunteers during their visits. Volunteers will help out two days a month (dates are flexible) from 1pm to 5pm. Volunteers must be able to translate from Spanish to English and vice versa.
Friendship Meal We are looking for several volunteer drivers to deliver meals to those who are unable to leave their homes. A volunteer will only drive while another volunteer will deliver the meals to the front door. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required for this job. Volunteers can make at least one delivery per week.
The Salvation Army We are seeking volunteers to help with paperwork etc. in the office 2-3 times a week (days and times per week are flexible to accommodate volunteers' schedules.) Volunteers should have customer service experience, be able to hear well and answer calls in a timely manner, be able to sit for long periods of time and stand occasionally, understand or be willing to learn about HIPAA law, and be able to operate a computer.
Wisdom Movement We are seeking Developmental Mentors to support young people ages 12-21. Mentors will help increase the development, confidence and motivation of local young people while reducing drug use, risky behaviour and the school-to-prison pathway. Volunteer Mentors will meet with their mentors once a week. Two of the monthly meetings will be one-on-one and the other two will be with the whole group to learn life skills and do fun bonding activities. Volunteers will be required to pass a criminal background check before starting.
Buehler Sunshine Meadows is looking for volunteers to help with activities in its assisted living and retirement homes. Volunteers can help with bus trips, games, cooking, crafts, birthday parties, bingo, bell sing-alongs, or one-on-one meetings with residents. Volunteers undergo background checks before beginning volunteer work. Volunteers must be friendly, trustworthy, and patient.
Kansas State Fair Office is seeking a Front Desk Receptionist to answer and transfer phone calls, greet visitors to the fair office, and perform other administrative tasks. Volunteers are needed daily, beginning in July, from 9AM to 12PM, 12PM to 4PM, and 4PM to 8PM. Volunteers must pass a background check. You will receive free admission to the State Fair on the day you volunteer. Volunteers must have a friendly, helpful demeanor and be 18 years of age or older.
Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center We serve veterans at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Volunteer drivers drive vans donated by the American Veterans Association from Hutchinson to Wichita to help veterans attend emergency medical appointments. Veterans often miss their medical appointments without the help of caring volunteers. Volunteer van drivers are needed once a week from approximately 7am to 3pm, or once or twice a month if once a week is not possible. Volunteers must pass a driver's license physical test, have a good driving record, and have a valid driver's license and insurance.
