RENO, Nev. (COLO) – The Reno Senior Center's kitchen and meal delivery facility will undergo a multi-phase project. The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners approved $840,000 in project funding.
The Senior Services Phase 1 renovation project consists of building and grounds improvements for food service operations to improve the level of production and distribution of home-delivered meals. Improvements include remodeling and reconfiguring the main kitchen area and replacing the kitchen flooring.
“Currently, when you get a product, it has to travel to different parts of the building before it can be loaded onto a truck. That slows it down and creates inefficiencies. This expansion and modification will improve efficiency. “Welfare Coordinator Abby Badolato said.
The Senior Center has been in operation since 1978 and continues to provide a wide range of daily services, including meals and multiple assistance programs, to more than 85,000 seniors.
“There's a sense of camaraderie here. We meet here in the morning, we open at 8 a.m., and we talk about all kinds of things: the weather, everything, soccer, politics,” said John, a fourth-year student who attends the center every day. Bestvina said. “Well, it's great that they're doing something for that because they have a lot going on here. The girls that work here are great: Rachel, Annie, everyone, Lisa.”
The project is expected to begin within the next two months.
