Restaurants across the U.S., including several in North Carolina and South Carolina, join humanitarian organizations after Israeli Defense Forces attack in Gaza Strip kills seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers is stepping up its fundraising activities.
Benevolent Spirits, an Asheville hospitality fundraising organization, is coordinating fundraising efforts for WCK. They are asking participating bars and restaurants to designate a cocktail or non-alcoholic beverage for this purpose, and for every order, the establishment will donate $1 to WCK. For example, Chai Pani and Botiwalla donate $1 every time they order a mango her lassi at various stores.
Carolina participants include Chai Pani (Asheville), Botiwalla (Asheville and Charlotte), Cúrate (Asheville), La Bodega (Asheville), Ajja (Raleigh), Chubby Fish (Charleston), and The Montford Rooftop Bar (Asheville), including Soprana Rooftop. Cucina (Asheville), The Crunkleton (Chapel Hill), Twisted Laurel (Asheville), Ashville Brewing Co. (Asheville), Posana (Asheville), High Five Coffee (Asheville), Seabird (Wilmington), Chestnut (Asheville), and Corner Kitchen (Asheville).
World Central Kitchen became the first organization to successfully send aid to Gaza by ship, when an open arms ship carrying 200 tons of food arrived in the area on March 15. Chef Jose Andrés founded the nonprofit in 2010 after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. .
