Police are searching for a man who accidentally shot and killed his accomplice during an attempted robbery in Hell's Kitchen last month.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, at 12th Avenue and W50th Street, when three unidentified people in a white car attempted to forcibly remove the chain from a 35-year-old man's neck. did. When the victim tried to fight back, the two suspects displayed guns, police said.
One shot the victim in the arm, and the other shot his accomplice in the chest and leg, before both got back into the car and fled the scene with the driver.
Police said the victim, who retained his property, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, while one of the assailants, identified as Benny Polanco, 21, of the Bronx, later entered NYU Langone Medical Center for treatment and was taken into custody.
Polanco is charged with multiple charges including attempted second-degree murder, robbery, assault, gang assault and possession of a weapon.
