salt & straw, a small-batch ice cream chain opening this summer at 360 Amsterdam Avenue (West 77th Street). “A long time ago, we received an investment from. [restaurateur] Danny Meyer and his team, […] “Over the years, we've always toyed with the idea of opening in New York City, but never really came up with a suitable plan,” said founder Kim Marek of Westside Rag. said on the phone. “As soon as I found this corner location, I knew it was the place.” Because Salt & Straw uses local ingredients, the NYC location is similar to Salt & Straw's existing locations in other parts of the country. will taste different (Salt & Straw will also open a second New York location in the West Village). “Cousin Tyler [Malek] “We do a lot of collaborations with local bakers and chefs,” she said. “We haven't finalized anything yet, but it's really exciting.” The menu will also change monthly.
Malek started Salt and Straw in 2011 as a small ice cream cart in Portland, Oregon. After her career at Starbucks, she set out to create a brand that brings people together. “I thought ice cream was a great way to reflect the local community.” The Cottage, a Chinese restaurant that previously occupied this location. mara townThe Chinese restaurant sign is located at 929 Amsterdam Avenue (between West 105th and 106th Streets). Another Chinese restaurant, Grain House, previously occupied the space but has been closed since March. Maratown posted on Instagram that it will be “opening soon” in New York City, but the exact date is unclear. The restaurant's name refers to “mala tang'', a type of street food originating from China's Sichuan province, which literally means “numbingly hot spiciness''. MalaTown also has locations in Union City, New Jersey, California, and Las Vegas. (Thanks to Yvonne for the tip.)
YSJ Nail & Spa It opened on Saturday, April 20th on West 79th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway. This salon offers manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials, and massages. For one month, we will be having a 20% off sale on all services. The storefront has been vacant for the past few years, but previously housed a Goodwill thrift store.
immigrant kitchen has reopened its seasonal food and beverage stand in Central Park, located just north of Heckscher Stadium (near West 65th Street). Migrant Kitchen also has locations on the Upper West Side (West 67th Street and Columbus Avenue) and the Upper East Side. The Central Park outpost operates out of the historic district. Ballfields Cafe building.For this season, Migrant Kitchen is menu, frozen cocktails, wine, beer and more. In April, the outpost will be open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., but starting the week of May 6, that schedule will expand to Wednesday through Sunday. Programs include live music, trivia nights, and yoga throughout the summer. This location will remain open through the fall. The exact closing date has not yet been set and is subject to weather conditions.
shakespeare & companybookstore opened in mid-March at 2736 Broadway (West 105th Street). This bookstore was founded in 1983 by him. This will be his second location on the Upper West Side for Shakespeare & Company, which also has locations at West 70th Street and Broadway. The space was previously the discount women's clothing store Steps New York. closed last year. (Thanks to Maggie for the tip).
