Fans of BBC's Saturday Kitchen switched off just minutes into the show this Saturday (22 June), which saw host Matt Tebbutt joined by chefs Georgina Hayden, Genevieve Taylor and Jason Atherton, along with some special guests, but this left fans unhappy.
Scottish singer and actress Lulu appeared on BBC TV much to the dismay of UK audiences. The 75-year-old star has had a career that spans six decades, but not everyone is happy that she's still in the spotlight.
On X (formerly Twitter), one user posted, “#saturdaykitchen Lulu is on so I turned it off,” to which another user replied, “Just watching Greek food and I'm turning it off too.”
Another wrote: “Oh this is disgusting. No way I'm gonna put up with Lulu the insufferable one hit wonder in the morning. Not even her singing was good! A con artist she thinks she's bigger than God. Poor cow. #SaturdayKitchen” (sic).
Another user gushed: “Of all the guests in the world… why, why? #SaturdayKitchen.”
However, not everyone was critical of her appearance on the show, with some happy to see her join the ranks of TV chefs, with one person commenting: “Lulu seems so funny! Great lady #SaturdayKitchen.”
Another user commented, “It's @lulushouts today!!!!! Yay so excited. #saturdaykitchen.”
Lulu said that the attention is tough for her and opened up about her personality, saying, “I'm actually quite an introverted person.”
“I can be very chatty here. I'm very chatty and personable, but I'm not open to just anyone, really. You know what I mean. I keep certain things private, and somewhat discreet, if I can.”
Meanwhile, celebrity chef Matt appeared to be taking a dig at his former colleague and “rival”, TV chef James Martin – Tebbutt replaced Martin as presenter of BBC show Saturday Kitchen in 2016, but had previously served as stand-in presenter.
Appearing on the podcast “Spooning with Mark Worgan,” Tebbutt appeared to poke fun at his TV predecessor, with Worgan saying: “There's a bit of a rivalry with the weekend chefs? What's that about?”
Tebbutt replied: “Ratings! Can you stay on the air? Can you pay the mortgage?” Wogan then added: “That's you. That's James, who was in the same place as you.”
Tebbutt then said mischievously:[James is] I'm doing exactly the same thing at ITV. After I wanted to quit…”
