Malik Grant, 29, was caught stealing several bags of candy from Candy Kitchen in Savannah on May 17th. The officers were approached by a “Nashville Safety Ambassador.” The “ambassador” told the officers about the incident and pointed to Grant, who was standing in front of the police car. Officers observed Grant carrying several bags of candy and popcorn with price tags on them. The officers tried to talk to Grant, but he refused and stared at the “ambassador.” Officers then tried to restrain Grant, but he began screaming and threatening them. Grant continued to scream and said he would kill or “beat the shit out of” the officers and the “ambassador.” While speaking with Grant, officers observed signs of intoxication and a large cup that smelled like an alcoholic beverage. While investigating the theft charges, officers spoke with the manager of Candy Kitchen in Savannah. She said she witnessed Grant steal multiple bags of candy and quickly leave. When the officer placed Grant in his patrol car, Grant kicked in his window and fled. Officers then attempted to restrain Grant's legs, but Grant shook them off and attempted to flee from officers again. Malik Grant was referred to arrest proceedings and charged with public intoxication, criminal damage to property, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
