Lansdowne, Virginia – This afternoon at a senior center in Lansdowne, Virginia, Senator Tim Kaine announced the first pillar of his “Kaine Kitchen Table Agenda,” cutting prescription drugs. In the coming months, Senator Kaine will be announcing new pillars of his plan across Virginia, highlighting his efforts to reduce costs and help Virginians afford their finances.
“We're pleased to see a $35 insulin cap for seniors, but there's still work to be done. No Virginian should be in a situation where they have to choose between their life-saving medication and groceries or rent. We need to institute a $35 insulin cap for all Virginians so that every resident in this state only has to pay $35 for a life-saving medication.” Senator Tim Kaine said: “That's why today I'm announcing lowering prescription drug costs as the first step in my Cain Kitchen Table economic agenda — because I'm committed to lowering costs for families across Virginia.”
Senator Kaine was the deciding vote on the Inflation Control Act, which would limit seniors' out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs purchased at pharmacies to $2,000 per year, saving Virginians more than $100 million. It would also limit the amount seniors pay for a month's supply of insulin to $35, benefiting approximately 36,500 Virginians. Senator Kaine believes these savings should be available to all Virginians, and he is fighting to lower prescription drug costs in the U.S. Senate.
