If there's anyone who advocates for neutral interiors, it's Stacey Solomon. We were so thrilled when we found out she went to the other end of the spectrum and painted her kitchen black. Willingly surprised.
Stacey Solomon has always been one of our biggest interior inspirations, so it's huge news for us that she's brought one of the most popular kitchen trends of the year – the black kitchen – to Pickle Cottage.
Stacey has kept the colors in her kitchen more muted in the past. In our opinion, she has brought a warmth of life to her kitchen with wood and gold accents. However, she surprised herself with how cozy the dark kitchen looked in her home, and she tells us she plans to stick with dark colors for a while.
Stacey shared a glimpse of her kitchen makeover on Instagram, expressing her surprise at the results of her bold paint idea. “I just went for it,” she wrote in the caption, “I had no idea how much more cozy and overall pretty painting it black would make it.”
Much of the anxiety about going dark comes from a fear that it will look too harsh, something Stacey admits, but she's pleased that “it feels a lot more homely and actually a lot lighter,” hailing the black scheme as “something special” compared to her previous white kitchen.
Naturally, Instagram fans have also gone wild for the transformation, with many expressing “kitchen envy” while others admit they've been seduced by the darker decor, saying: “I never thought about painting my kitchen black but this looks amazing.”
If Stacey sparks a new wave among those looking to add some color to their all-white kitchens, or inspires people to explore other great colors to paint your kitchen with, we're all for it.
How Stacey nailed the black kitchen colour scheme
If you have a small kitchen, you might be a little hesitant to jump at the same paint idea as Stacey, as dark colors have a reputation for making rooms feel smaller. But that doesn't have to be the case.
“Be careful not to use too many dark blues, blacks and greens as they can make a room feel small, but Stacey expertly balances the room with white worktops and light stone slab floors,” explains Darren Watts, showroom design director at Len Kitchens.
Stacey's white kitchen was certainly gorgeous, but now her kitchen cabinets are definitely making a statement. Not to mention, the inclusion of dark colours creates a homey, cosy feel, making the kitchen really feel like the heart of the home, adds Darren.
“Modern metallic hardware on the sink, handles, and integrated oven will add a touch of elegance to your kitchen and give it an overall 'luxury' feel,” he adds. So, if you're looking to give your kitchen a luxurious feel, you might want to consider giving your cooking space a touch in this direction.

Darren concludes: “Beige kitchens, although visually clean, can often look flat and lifeless, which is why it's so great to see Stacey adding personality to her kitchen. Going for a dark colour can be a daunting task, but when balanced well with light tones and bright metallics it looks stylish and is a very on-trend change.”
