If you've been waiting for Steak and Ale to return to Texas, you'll have to wait a little longer, but in the meantime, patrons are coming to the rescue of the struggling East Dallas restaurant. Plus, there's an update on the revival of Plano's Crossroads Diner and Taco Deli's expansion plans into Cowtown.
Steak and Ale was a legendary restaurant for over 40 years, from 1966 to 2008. The iconic brand started at Oak Lawn and Lemon Avenue in Dallas. Steak and Ale is unique in that it serves reasonably priced prime rib in an elegant yet family-friendly restaurant. None of us have dined at Steak and Ale in over 15 years, but the longtime restaurateur took on a passion project to revive Steak and Ale. DallasNews.com/Food previously reported that the first Texas location would be in Grand Prairie, and that appears to still be true. Plans in Texas have been delayed, and Steak & Ale will likely reopen here in 2025.
Mixtitos is a Mexican-Japanese fusion restaurant located just north of Interstate 30 and near Woodrow Wilson High School in Old East Dallas. The restaurant has been open since 2022, but it hasn't sold enough food to pay the bills. Mixtitos Kitchen could close if sales don't increase dramatically, so a group of passionate neighbors are trying to save the business by getting the word out. They have until the end of the month to try to rebuild their business.
Crossroads Diner, popular for its chewy buns and pancakes, will open in Plano this fall after closing during the pandemic four years ago. Chef and owner Tom Fleming told DallasNews.com/Food that he has signed a lease for Heritage Creekside, a development at Plano Parkway and Alma Road in south Plano.
If you love breakfast tacos, Taco Deli announced this week that it will open its first restaurant in Tarrant County in the fall. Taco Deli is located at 4500 Heartwood Drive in Tanglewood, near Trader Joe's. The Fort Worth store will be the 13th Taco Deli store in Texas.
