The kitchen appears to be a continuing theme at two concerts hosted by Tapestry Opera later this month. First Acadian Kitchen Party, then Iron Chef-inspired musical concoctions take the vocal art in completely different directions.
Both events give Toronto audiences the opportunity to hear their favorite artists perform in an intimate and fun atmosphere.
Le Kitchen Party (May 21st)
Host Julien Galant, Tapestry Associate Artistic Director and Women's Music Leadership Fellow, with Jacques Arsenault (tenor/accordion), Marie-Andre Gaudet (violin/fiddle) and Pierre-Andre Doucet (piano).
The program includes a world premiere by composer Sophie Dupuis based on a poem by Pierre-André Doucet.

Born in New Brunswick julian galant She is currently the permanent conductor of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and one of two participants in the inaugural women's musical leadership program at Tapestry. She has performed with several orchestras across Canada, including the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Arts Center Orchestra.
I'm from Acadia, Jack Arsenault Studied accordion in Prince Edward Island since childhood. He then realized his passion for singing as a tenor. He holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Alberta and has performed across Canada since his professional debut in 2015.
violinist Marie Andre Gaudet He holds two master's degrees from Laval University in Quebec, one in music performance and the other in chamber music and orchestra. She is originally from New Brunswick and is based in Moncton. After starting out in her classical world, she returned to her roots and explored her Acadian music.
pianist and writer Pierre-Andre Doucet She is a winner of the Knigge Piano Competition and has won the Toronto Women's Music Club Career Development Competition and the European Award. He has performed throughout Canada and in South Africa.
Sophie Dupuis Composer and violinist from New Brunswick. She has performed with and composed her works for a variety of artists and ensembles, including Ballet Opera Pantomine, Duo Holz, Ventus Machina, Made in Trio, and Din of Shadows. I did. Sophie received her Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Dalhousie University.

Iron Man of the Orchestra | May 22nd
Associate Artistic Director, Dora-nominated conductor, and Women in Music Leadership Fellow Jennifer Tan co-hosts the event with tenor Keith Klassen, known to Tapestry audiences for his sense of humor.
The program's musical creations also include world premieres by composer Yvan Barbotin and librettist Donna-Michel St. Bernard.

designated conductor jennifer tan He is the artistic director of Toronto City Opera and associate conductor of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. He is a multi-faceted artist as music director, collaborative pianist and soprano. She directed Tapestry Opera and Obsidian Theater's co-production of Of the Sea (Ian Cousson/Kanika Ambrose) and is a faculty member at the Glenn Gould School.
Graduated from the Opera Department of the University of Toronto, tenor Keith Klassen He has performed over 100 roles in traditional and new opera repertoire. His career has taken him across North America, Europe and the Bahamas. His reviews have noted both his vocals and dramatic skills.
mezzo-soprano Christina Szabo I am a graduate of the University of Western Ontario. She completed her postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She made her professional debut in 1998 as a member of the Canadian Opera Her Company Her Ensemble Her Studio, Atom She She She Béla Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle She has continued to have a busy career that has taken her to Canada and China, including starring in a production of “The World's Best.'' She is also an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia.
Composition Ivan Barbotin and librettist Donna-Michel St. Bernard first met at Tapestry's LIBLAB program. They later worked together as part of the writers' room for the SOS Sketch Opera Singers.
Ivan is from St. Petersburg, Russia, and founded a rock band when he was a teenager. At the age of 16 he joined the famous Russian band Forum and toured Russia to sold-out audiences. His career took a detour after he immigrated to Canada in 1990, but ten years later he returned to the world of music and wrote his first ballet, Velveteen Rabbit. Since then, he has composed two of his other ballet works, as well as various works for film and television, including Discovery for his channel and his BBC.
Canadian playwright, theater director, presenter, and arts administrator donna michelle st bernard Recipient of the Dora Mavor Moore Award. She is the artistic director of New Harlem Productions, a finalist for the Siminovich Prize in Drama, and is based in Hamilton. Her work is produced across the country and she is in the midst of a 54ology, a cycle of 54 plays, one for each country on the African continent.
