What other smart kitchen tools can we expect to see in 2023? Two connected smart cutting boards first appeared at the Consumer Technology Showcase in early January. And Japanese water and air purification company Caltech has announced an interesting $315 produce and bread storage box that uses photocatalysts to slow mold and spoilage. Smart ovens continue to improve and become more capable, but their high prices keep them out of reach for most people.
Below are some of the smart kitchen trends to watch in 2023.
GE Profile Smart Mixer
A stand mixer with real smartness
KitchenAid has cornered the market with stand mixers, but GE Profile's latest entry into the category has raised more than a few eyebrows. The smart mixer has a built-in scale to accurately measure your recipes. It also features AutoSense technology, which helps the machine determine when something is finished mixing or needs more oomph, especially when running guided recipes.
Speaking of guided recipes, GE Profile syncs with the app and helps you navigate dozens of recipes, from measuring ingredients to the mixing part. CNET's Jessica Dolcourt tried it out, and this might be her favorite of CES 2023.

LG's mood up
Refrigerator connectivity goes even further
A few days ago when 2023 started, we never thought we'd need a fridge that changes colors and syncs to music at the tap of a button, but here we are. Yes, LG's MoodUp refrigerator is flashy and most of its features are completely unnecessary, but not all.
Consider Instaview's knock-to-view technology. This isn't entirely new, but if you move the front panel of your refrigerator slightly, one of the front panels will become transparent, allowing you to see what's inside without opening it. Oh, and the fridge senses you coming in at midnight and provides a gentle light from one of its panels so you don't step into the dog's water while you're sneaking a cheesecake at 2am.
It's expensive, but honestly, I'm starting to see its appeal. Click here to learn more about LG MoodUp.
Samsung AI wall oven
An oven that warns you before your food burns
Announced at CES 2023, Samsung's new AI wall oven features an internal camera and technology that can send a view of the inside of the oven directly to social media. AI Pro Cooking algorithms recognize up to 80 different dishes, recommend the right temperature, time and cooking mode, and send notifications to prevent food from burning.

Caltech Fresh Food Keeper
Can a little science solve stale bread?
Preventing fresh, unrefrigerated food from spoiling and molding has always been a problem, and kitchen innovators at Caltech in Japan think they've solved the answer. This state-of-the-art breadbox is electric and uses photocatalysis, a chemical method sometimes used to decontaminate water, to keep bread and produce fresher for longer.
We haven't tested the $315 Fresh Food Keeper yet. Obviously, we will have to test it over a few days, but we are working on it and will report the results soon.
brava glasses
Smart ovens are getting more sophisticated, but prices aren't coming down
As much as we love the Brava smart oven, we can't recommend it enough due to its incredible price. In fact, the entire smart oven category is still too expensive for most people to justify pulling the trigger. This latest offering from Brava is no exception.
The new $2,000 Brava Glass, which the company announced at CES, has all the features of the original $1,300 model and includes the ability to air fry, roast, bake, grill, toast, reheat, slow cook, and warm. Masu. The front glass door allows you to see the cooking process. Previously, the food sizzling inside Braava could only be viewed from a mobile phone via a camera installed in the galley.

smart cutting board
New smart kitchen category debuts
Two smart cutting boards made their CES debut this year, joining a long list of smarter kitchen tools.
The Blok is a sleek and expensive walnut board with a removable screen for live or recorded cooking videos, so you can cook without looking at your tablet. It's pretty cool to look at, but I'm not sure it's worth the $799 upfront cost and $39 monthly subscription.
A more practical version is the Versaware Smart Cutting Board. There is no pricing information yet, but we expect it to be cheaper than Blok. This gadget-like cutting board features a small, easy-to-handle screen fixed in the bottom corner that walks you through recipes and provides useful information on technique, calories, and nutrition.
