ENDIcott, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Broome County's favorite Kitchen on Wheels will soon have a new home in Endicott.
The Kitchen Counter Food Truck is opening its own brick-and-mortar restaurant. The store is located at 501 West Main Street, the former location of Smarty's Ice Cream.
The Kitchen Counter's big red food truck has quickly become a neighborhood staple since opening last June. It's known for its fried chicken sandwiches, smash burgers, and sides. The brick-and-mortar menu will include fan-favorite foods, as well as new items like ice cream, deli subs, and salads.
The kitchen counter is owned by Mark Yezzi and Aaron Laughlin.
Yezzi said she hopes it becomes a destination for families.
“We want to grow this business into something that we can be proud of and be part of the community, where we want people to come here and know it's a regular place where they can come and have a good lunch. We want to be able to get takeout and ice cream cones for our families. We prefer to be behind the counter and take orders. “When we see our customers come out to support us, we get great joy from that face-to-face interaction,” said Ietsi.
Kitchen Counter temporarily operated out of the former Social on State store in downtown Binghamton during the winter. It is expected to open in Endicott by early May.
Food trucks will also be back on the road at about the same time.
