Hosting a BBQ will be even easier with this simple yet genius onion slicing trick.
Every Friday at my company, we have a fun email feature where we share different life hacks. This week I found one that I wanted to share, perfect for BBQ season. I sent this video to my coworkers and they all agreed it was so simple yet genius, so I decided to share it here.
Warm weather is upon us. Whether you're hosting a barbecue for Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July weekend, or you just want to host a barbecue, you know that barbecuing can be a lot of work. Anyway, I'm all for making hosting a barbecue a little easier. With this hack, you can slice an onion quickly. You only need two tools for this hack. A fork or knife and a potato peeler are all you need.
This method will make chopping an onion quicker and save you tears. Use a fork or knife to hold the onion still and run the peeler over the onion. This simple trick will result in thinly sliced onions that are perfect for serving with a dish or burger. Watch the video below to learn how.
Now, the most common question I see with this hack is, “Why not just use a mandolin?” I agree that a mandolin is super handy, but it's a pain to set up and a pain to clean afterwards. So unless you're slicing multiple things, I don't think it's worth getting out the mandolin for one onion, but that's just my opinion. You're on your own.
This hack was actually used by Detroit75Kitchen on TikTok, and we're sure you'll agree that it's really taken your barbecue game up a notch.
